Sandy Roth, Marketing/Business Development at Henderson Rogers
Current SMPS Houston Mentor/Protégé Chair | SMPS Member since 2010
What does your committee do? My committee assists A/E/C professionals in their personal growth and professional development. The program works to team marketers at all experience levels with seasoned A/E/C industry marketing professionals in a supportive, one-on-one environment. I evaluate the applications and pair the applicant with the industry professional that best aligns with their professional goals and continue to monitor their progress throughout the year.
Why did you want to be on the board? This is the second board position that I have held. The first position I held was Board Secretary for two years. I wanted to be on the board to help shape our younger membership and to be a resource for new and seasoned marketers.
What do you hope to accomplish as director/chair? When I took over the Mentor/Protégé program in 2015, my goal was to provide a valuable resource to our members who sought professional development. I re-vamped the program and tweaked the eligibility requirements for our mentors to offer more levels of mentors, even a C-Suite level mentor. I also made the program customizable for each protégé to make the program their own by offering new tools/resources and a Marketing/Business Development Syllabus. I hope the program continues to add value for our membership and increases in the number of participants.
What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a board member? My advice to anyone interested in becoming a board member is to make the commitment and put in the time and effort it takes to run a successful committee. My philosophy is you get what you give. The more you are committed to your position, the more you will get in return.
